NEWS - September 30, 2025
The CCF Board is working diligently on saving the Chappy Store. There are details still to be finalized before the land can be purchased by the Chappaquiddick Community Fund. In the meantime, we wanted to share with you our vision and timeline for the next year. We developed this vision from your input on the surveys and conversations you all have had with the various CCF members. We look forward to your continued input and encourage you to send them to our email address: info@thechappyfund.org
A Vision for the New Chappy Store
A store with the primary purpose to serve the Chappy Community.
A store that offers online ordering/pick up services for groceries to Chappy Residents.
A store that can supply convenient, on-site, small purchases of household items and food.
A store that will offer a "subscription service" to help add upfront capital for the store as well as offer price reductions for regular, loyal users.
A store that can offer prepared foods for on site and take away.
A store that will meet the requirements of the MV Land Bank to be open a minimum of 6 months a year with the primary goal of supplying food for the Chappaquiddick Community. We will also provide, as required, an affordable housing option, design of which will come in the future.
Summer 2026 - The Beginning
Depending on timeframe and ownership, we will attempt an assessment of the whole building and identify any space beyond the existing store space that could be expanded temporarily to accommodate services outlined in the Vision above. We will work on an agreement with the business owner to incorporate the above vision into the business offerings.
The Primary effort for 2026 will be to institute some form of the order online/pickup delivered groceries at the Store. Previous store offerings will continue and adjustments made where necessary.
An extensive analysis of the new programs at the end of the summer will be made to effectively evaluate the business viability of these operations moving forward.
We encourage the Chappaquiddick Community to be engaged in these buying opportunities and to give us their feedback.
We hope that after the 2026 season we will have enough information to plan the renovation of the store and begin raising funds.
We are moving ahead with our plans to purchase the Chappy Store Lot - We need your help
To develop a Store that will be successful and intune with the shopping needs of the Chappy Community, we are asking the community for a few minutes to take the survey linked below. Your input is very important. Please tell your Chappy friends to come to this site and take the survey as well.
The Chappaquiddick Community Fund started in 2015 to help those who needed assistance to cover the cost for the installation of wiring for Comcast service.
After a number of years of being idle, our latest project is purchassing the 1 acre parcel which houses the Chappy Store.
The Jeffers homestead is being purchased by the Martha's Vineyard Land Bank.
The Land Bank's charter would not allow it to maintain the store. Working with the Land Bank, we have been given the opportunity to purchase the store on 1 acre to allow for its continued operation for years to come.
The is a one chance opportunity. If for any reason we can not succeed in acquiring the land, it will be purchased by the MV Land Bank and be a part of the other 23.5 acres to be preserved for recreation, open space, and agriculture.
We will have more information coming soon, but we encourage the Chappy community to think big and into the future. What opportunities can the store offer for Chappy residents (summer and year round) now and into the future.
More to come!
